A total of 10,000 young men and women will benefit from the program in Region 1, Region 2, and the Cordillera Autonomous Region. President Macapagal was guest of honor in the opening ceremonies of the 13th Asia Pacific Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association (APHCA) and International Hair and Make-Up Competition 2009 at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City today (Oct. 21).
In her remarks, the chief executive lauded Reyes and his group for rallying to the cause of their distressed countrymen and women.
The training courses are to be conducted in cooperation with the Department of Labor, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said his agency has already begun conducting surveys to determine who among the residents are interested to join the program.
TESDA and FilHair Coop will provide the instructors and the training modules, while DSWD and DOLE will take care of logistics including venue and the funds.
The hairdresser disclosed that the proceeds of today’s event would be turned over to the proper government agency for the relief to the victims. He added his group is coordinating with the Office of the President for that purpose.
FilHair Cooperative has been organized to improve the level of professionalism in the industry. Through the years it has sponsored some of the biggest hair and makeup events in the country, where stylists compete for various titles. The organization was founded in 1984. It now has 17 chapters not only in the Philippines but also in Kuwait and Hong Kong.
