The thing people reading the New York Times media and advertising review section of the papers website might wonder about it why and how? Fox News, the currently embattled news leader and setter of the national news cycle in the USA has its finger on the pulse of people’s views. The network commentators and talk shows go on the fringe and make some cringe but basically they know what people like and are getting the numbers that CNN, the major broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC have not been able to get in decades.  A regular audiance that keeps watching, listens, and learns from what is shown on TV.

To some CNN, while trying to keep its leadeship edge copied much of Fox’s content patterns and programing grid style but on different marketing niche, MSNBC the second rung on the leader board of cable rating is the opposite of Fox in its views and market positioning. It has shifted to the left of dial while Fox is middle right.  In global term centrist.

The Center: Fox has a majority position there and the right as well making its position stronger
Correctly looking across the American demographic of socio-political views this is where the majority of America’s population is in terms of thier opinions and views. The vast majority are people who see things like God, Patriotism, Country, basic freedom, and, America as the center of all things. Most do not have passport, have rarely traveled abroad – with the exception of going to Los Angeles or New York which can be as alien to middle America as Europe or Mexico in terms of way those living in many other states see the major urban centers of the country.
CNN, for decades was the worlds news leader – until it dropped the lead and went into a strange mode of creating niche networks across the globe.
CNN International is not the same as CNN in the USA
What we outside the USA see as CNN – is not the CNN and HLN or headline news channels CNN has in the USA. Those two channels – both CNN too are as different as FoxNews is from Al Jazeera or the BBC in terms of content and context.

Newscorp the global news network that gives viewers what they want: The News

NewsCorp which owns Fox and its much larger outfit SkyNews in Europe and Australia are by far more audience driven than the networks CNN runs at present. I did ’string for CNN’ once upon a time years ago as I did also for CNBC and number of other channels and radio networks. For the last almost going on ten years I’ve worked mostly with Fox News and SkyNews as a freelance contributor.
The way stories are submitted are same as most other networks. The news is the news – commentary is left to those who do that side of the business. Opinion is not a major factor. But also one thing I noted was the difference in the way stories could be presented at Fox. I remember a now almost forgotten insident of a bus hijacking I did a report on for Fox.

Had it been on at the other networks a voice from a producer would have told me to not show any change in demeanor or tone when Gov. SIngson put his hands on two hand grenades and got a kidnapper to surrender. At the time no one knew they were practise grenades but still it was highly charged drama and with color commentary giving both the clear details and facts – commercials were pushed back and drama unfolded live on Fox. On other reports and stories I did the same – be it reporting on Geraldo when a breaking story took place during the Oakwood mutiny or the more recent Princess of the Seas tragedy or the floods of the last few weeks. Nearly every major event of news covered and shown live or in packaged reports in the USA and throughout the world.
So Fox has been active and as a news organization has it has done its part in the Philippines when things happen here.
