‘Desperate Blogging’:… The Teri Hatcher & Marc Cherry Protest

3 October 2007 3 Comments

ABC TV is getting a lot of millage out of the ‘desperate protests’ in the Philippines.

The hits up on the shows replay service in Asia, as People in Manila are looking to see just what Marc Cherry’s writers wrote – some doctors have here have petitioned the MTRCB to ban the show until an ap0pology is issued.

Others, have spoken of plan to boycott the show, the products of the advertisers, and worse even the ever active Philippine congress has a couple resolutions waiting to be sent in protest to the US embassy over the ‘insulting remark.’

But, its going to get a lot worse – a lot of content is produced here in the Philippines – edited and outsourced here by ABC TV, Capitol Cities, and, parent company Disney,

There is a move tonight Ii overheard at one production facility ABC uses – to boycott work sent by ABC TV until a formal apology is issued! Or a lot of ABC content is going to disappear from some servers!

Move on further, at least three Call centers have also sponsored a ‘call -in protest’ – allowing their off duty personnel on break to call for free ABC TV and protest!

But Blog-space is full of Desperate bloggers – like myself I posted a copy of one petition and got something like a few hundreds times more hits in one day.

And other blogs I have cross posted about ‘the comment,’ after my friends in media here in Manila cross posted the site in reference to the petition: Filipino Americans demand for apology from ABC and Desperate Housewives

Worse is a move to have hatcher put on a ‘blacklist’ as racist, I don’t think Marc Cherry the shows head writer would care really since he seems to be not to keen on the Philippines or Filipino’s in past shows he’s always been critical of the Philippines – some say he just doesn’t like pinoys, fil-ams or anyone coming from here.

Since Andrew Cunanan shot Versace – a lot of the shows he produces and writes for often puts negative comments or presents a negative image of the Philippines.

But who cares. One day when Cherry winds up in a nursing home – he’ll learn to take a different attitude – because more chances than not he’ll be cared for in his old age by a person educated in a Filipino med school – so that will be that. Most likely Marc, the last person you’ll see in your life will be a Filipino.

Anyhow, its a TV show and most likely most people know that after this comment there will be more – since all the publicity generated will boost numbers.
